Rizzle Kicks - Down with the trumpets
Name of track: Down with the trumpets
Artist: Rizzle kicks
Album: Down with the trumpets
Intertectual References: There isn't any
Category: Mostly amplification but a bit of illustration too.
Genre characteristics: You can tell that it is a pop genre because of the use of the costume and the use of the vibrant colours at the start of the video. I think the bedroom makes it obvious of the genre because it's quite bold and bright. Also the visuals and the clothing that the boys are wearing makes it obvious to the genre.
Relationship between lyrics and visulas: The lyrics are lip synced by the band in the video but sometimes it just shows clips of things happening and this doesn't need the lip syncing. They both lip sync there own parts in the video.
Relationship between the music and visuals: The lyrics don't really have a relationship with the visuals at most times but in some of the video they do. They fall on the ground in some bits when they say 'Get down with the trumpets' which I think works really well because it is different everytime.
Are there any close ups of the artist and star image motifs: There aren't many close ups of the band in the video they are all mostly mid shots but there are some close ups in the video.
1.Why did you choose the text that you are analysing? I chose the text I am analysing because I think that the video is quite unique and I like how it moves from one place to another. The camera work is really clever which I think works well. I doesn't have any special effects so I thought it would be good to analyse a video with no special effects as I think it would be good for me to do a video which is clever with the camera work like this video.
2. In what context did you encounter it? I encountered the video on the music channel and thought that it was a really good video as it is different from other videos.
3. What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text? It didn't really have much influence on the interpretation of the text but it made me it obvious what the meaning of 'down with the trumpets' actually meant.
4. Which conventions of the genre do you recognize in the text? I recognise the fast movement and the fast music.
5. To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of the genre? It doesn't really stretch the conventions but it makes them more abstract.
6. Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre? It doesn't depart from the genre as it fits in well.
7. What sort of audience did you feel that the video was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre/ style of the music)? The video is aimed at people who are a fan of Rizzle kicks and who are a fan of pop music and mainstream music.
8. What sort of person does it assume you are? It assumes that you are a fan of Rizzle kicks and also assumes that you are a fan of mainstream and pop music.
9. What assumptions seem to be made about your class, age, gender and ethnicity? My assumptions are that it would be of both genders that would listen to this song. I think that it relates more to males than females but I think both genders would listen to this song, it relates to males more because the band members are male. I think that the sort of age that would listen to this song would be teenagers and above because it's quite an upbeat song. I don't think that we can assume the ethnic groups that listen to this song because it relates to all ethnic groups so therefore most ethnic groups would listen to this song, but mostly english and american people because it means that they would be able to understand the lyrics. I think that working class and middle class would be the most typical type of people that would listen to this song because of the use of the lyrics.
10. What interests does it assume you have? It assumes that you have an interest in Pop music and it also assumes that you have an interest in mainstream and upbeat music. It also assumes that you may be a fan of Rizzle kicks.
11. What relevence does the text actually have for you? It doesn't have much relevance although when I first saw the video I thought it was really good and I remembered it.
12. What knowlege does it take for granted? It takes for granted that you are a pop genre fan so it has elements which that specific genre are aware of.
13. To what extent do you resemble the 'ideal reader' that the video seeks to position you as? The ideal reader is a pop fan, so I am an ideal reader.
14. Are there any notable shifts in the video's style (and if so, what do they involve)? There a shifts in the background with the effects they have used, but the style is the same throughout.
15. What responses does the video seem to expect from you? It expects me to be extertained by it and to want to watch it again.
16. How open to negotiation is your response (are you invited, instructed or coerced to respond in particular ways)? You are open to negotiation and you are invited to respond in their way by the styling.
17. Is there any penalty for not resonding in the expected ways? No
18. To what extent do you find yourself 'reading against the grain' of the text and the genre? It matches the genre so it doesn't go against the grain.
19. How typical do you think this video is for a music video?
I don't think this is very typical for a music video as it is very abstract but it works really well. However more and more videos are getting more and more abstract so I would say that it us quite typical nowerdays for a music video because it is very unique.
