Wretch 32 - Don't Go

Name of track: Don't go
Artist: Wretch 32 feat Josh Kumra
Album: Black and White
Intertextual References: There aren't any intertextual references
Category: Amplification because there is a link with the beat
Genre characteristics: It is an R&B song and you can tell by the colour scheme in the video as it is a pale colour scheme. You can also tell by the background and the clothing of the artists.

Relationship between lyrics and visulas: The lyrics are lip synced by the singers but they don't lip sync for the hole video there is sometimes other elements which are filmed which makes it work well.

Relationship between music and visuals: The music doesn't really relate to the visuals as it is more of their thoughts rather than the events happening throughout the video. It sometimes does relate to the visuals because when it says 'I swear, I aint ever seen the sky so clear' we see Wretch 32 looking up at the sky.

Are there any close ups of the artist and star image motifs: There are a lot of close ups of the singers in the video and it is mainly when they are doing there verses. We see lots of close ups of Wretch 32 at the start of the video. We also see close ups of the Josh Kumra who is featured in the song.

1.Why did you choose the text that you are analysing? I chose the text I am analysing because I think that the video is quite simple and doesn't have many effects added to it which means that I will be able to create something like it.

2. In what context did you encounter it? I encountered the video on the music channel and thought that it was a really simple yet effective video and thought it was quite and simplistic video which worked really well.

3. What influence do you think this context might have had on your interpretation of the text? I think that this makes it more visual on the lyrics and it makes you think more about the words rather than just watch a video which has no relevance what so ever.

4. Which conventions of the genre do you recognize in the text? I think that the use of having the outfits make it obvious of the genre because you can instantly tell what genre it is.

5. To what extent does this text stretch the conventions of the genre? It uses an artist of a different genre.

6. Where and why does the text depart from the conventions of the genre? When the other artist sings.

7. What sort of audience did you feel that the video was aimed at (and how typical was this of the genre/ style of the music)? The video is aimed at people who are a fan of Wretch 32 and more of the R&B genre.I feel that the video is aimed at a large audience but more of a working class audience because of where the video is filmed as its filmed in the streets. I thnk that it's aimed at the artists fans.

8. What sort of person does it assume you are? It assumes that you are a fan of Wretch 32's work and also assumes that you are a fan of the genre which is an R&B genre.

9. What assumptions seem to be made about your class, age, gender and ethnicity? My assumptions are that it would be of both genders that would listen to this song. I think that it relates more to males than females but I think both genders would listen to this song. I think that the sort of age that would listen to this song would be teenagers and above because it's quite a slow, soft beat so most ages would like the song. I don't think that we can assume the ethnic groups that listen to this song because it relates to all ethnic groups so therefore most ethnic groups would listen to this song, but mostly english and american people because it means that they would be able to understand the lyrics. I think that most classes would listen to this song but I think that less higher class people would listen to the song whereas more lower class and working class would listen to the song because they can relate to the lyrics more.

10. What interests does it assume you have? It assumes that you have an interest in Wretch 32 and it also asusmes that you have an interest in R&B music and the artists in the song.

11. What relevence does the text actually have for you? It is the type of genre music I like.

12. What knowlege does it take for granted? It takes for gratned the fact that you are a fan of Wretch 32 and it takes into account the lifestyle that you may have and incorporates that into the video.

13. To what extent do you resemble the 'ideal reader' that the video seeks to position you as? I don't think I'm the ideal reader, but I think the ideal reader is a person who is a fan of rap and R&B.

14. Are there any notable shifts in the video's style (and if so, what do they involve)? No

15. What responses does the video seem to expect from you? It expects me to be entertained by the video and also expects me to want to watch it again and also like the song more by watching the video.

16. How open to negotiation is your response (are you invited, instructed or coerced to respond in particular ways)? I think that you are coerced to respond in a particular way because of the fact that it is a slow song and it makes you feel a bit sad with the colour scheme used and the movement.

17. Is there any penalty for not resonding in the expected ways? No

18. To what extent do you find yourself 'reading against the grain' of the text and the genre? I think that it fits in well with the genre.

19. How typical do you think this video is for a music video?
I don't think that it is a typical for an R&B music video because most are filmed inside. It also is typical in the way that it has lots of different shots e.g.close ups and long shots etc.
