Magazine Advert Analysis
La Roux magazine advert consists of two pages rather than one which I think works really well. I have chosen to look at this advert because I feel that the use of colours works really well because it matches her hair and also matches her face colour because the photo has been edited which I think works really well. I also really like this advert because I think that the writing works really well as it is a little abstract. I think that the writing style works really well because it is very bold. The picture is a close up and this helps with ensureing that the audience knows who she is and this close up of the side of her face works really well because you can see her hair and she is known for her abstract hair. The writing style is the same throughout this double page spread advert and I think that this works really well. I also really like the use of the simple layout as I think that it works really well. It also has her tour date on it which I think works really well as it promotes two different things so it helps market her tour as well as her album. The left side picture is exactly the same as her album cover and this works really well as it makes it obvious and it links the two together well. It also has some quotes, Im not sure what they are from but I think that it works really well for people who are a fan of her. I think that it would work well if they were from her songs. I think that they may be what people say about the album. It also has a star rating at the top which shows that it is 4 stars and this works well as it shows people that the album is good. I really like the edited picture as I think that it works really well as it makes it quite different and a little abstract.
Magazine Advert Analysis
This is Kanye West's poster for his album '808's Heartbreak'. This album uses Kanye Wests signiture heart that he uses a lot in his images and posters etc. It makes it obvious that it is his poster without having his image on it which I think works well because it still stands out without an image. I think the simple colours that are used work really well and also I think that the red brightens up the poster. This poster gives a lot of detail on it. It has the date of when it's out and it also has where it is available and has a few songs named on the poster. I think that not having a picture means that you can have a lot more information because you don't have to worry about overpowering a picture with writing. The poster matches the album cover really well as the album uses the heart and it also uses the same colours and also the same writing style which I think works really well. Having consistent artwork and style for the release is really effective because it means it's more effective and I think that it makes it more obvious and also it means people are more aware of it. I think that the layout works really well because it is really simple so it is easy to read. Also having the picture in the first 3rd of the page works really well because it looks simple and it is the first thing that you see. Having the use of the image being a heart and the name of the album being called '808's Heartbreak' works really well because it shows a heart so it links together which I think works really well. The most important information is in a bigger font than the other information which isn't as important which is good because the reader will see the most important things first.
Magazine advert Analysis
I think that this advert for Beyonces album Sasha Fierce is really eye catching because the colours are really simple but the gold makes it stand out which works really well. The image used is really abstract and unusual but also uses the male gaze which I think works really well. The layout is really simple and there is only one piece of writing which is the name of the album which I think works really well. I also think that using the same writing as the album works well and I think I am going to use this idea for my poster. The genre is obvious through this image as the poster is very pristine which is what the pop genre is about, it's about looking good and this shows through the image as Beyonce uses the male gaze. The simple aspect works really well and I hope to make my magazine advert really simple as I think that it will work really well. The title stands out and the reader will instantly see the name of the album. Also the picture stands out and this means that people will be aware of the artist as she is well known. I really like how it is in black and white because it means that the gold stands out. I also really like that the layout and how simple this is as it makes it really effective. As it is so simple it makes you focus on the image and this is what I want my focus to be on. The image is really clear of what it is and in the video 'Single ladies' it uses the same style as this so people will know the style from the video and recognise it on this advert. The shot used is a mid shot as it shows all of her face and her shoulders, I think that this works really well because you can see her style as well as her face. I think that for a magazine advert to be successful it needs to have the right image that stands out. It also needs matching font from the album as this makes it their style and it wouldn't link together if it didn't use the same font. Overall the design is really effective and the font and the image make it stand out really well.

Mock ups
Font
This is the font that I have decided to use for my Album cover. I have chosen this font because I have looked at other fonts and I have realised that most of the writing styles are squareish and all of almost all of them are in capital letters. I have looked at a variety of fonts on Dafont.com and Myfont.com but I found this font to be the best out of all of them. I have also decided that I am definitely going to use capitals on the font because I think it looks more proffesional. I have decided that the name of the artist is going to be bigger than the name of the album because I have noticed this is often done on album covers and I think that it will work well. I will be doing some mock ups using this font and I will look at different colour schemes which will help me to narrow down my ideas. The font that I have chosen is called Cassia.

Looking at Colour Schemes
I have chosen to look at the Red, White and Black colour schemes because from looking at different colour schemes I have found this to be the most eye catching out of all the colours that I have looked at. I have decided to look at album covers which include these colours in order to get an idea on how I can use them in my album cover and to get some inspiration.

Looking at artists websites
I have looked at some artists websites which I thought fit in with how we want Skye to be portrayed. I have looked at websites because it will help me to see how they are advertised and to also look at images and how they are portrayed through them. From looking at the websites I can look at many factors, I can look at how they are advertised and also there singles and albums. I can look at information on their websites and see posters which could inspire me for the making of my magazine article. This will be useful when creating ideas for my digipack.
This is Beyonce's website and the writing style is the same as the album cover which means that the style throughout is the same which works really well. On the website it advertises her album and also the tours whuich I think works well. It is for Beyonce's fans and it helps them to get news about Beyonce quickly.
The writing style and the colours scheme is exactly the same as Adele's album '21' I think that this works well because it brings an obvious theme to the website. I also think that it works well because it helps to promote the website. I think that actually having the album cover on the website works well because it promotes the album.
Nicki Minaj's website is in the same theme and colour scheme as Pink Friday which is her newest album release. I think that it works really well as people assosiate this colour with Nicki Minaj. It promotes her new alubm and also shows things which Nicki Minaj has been doing e.g. music awards. It also tell the viewer how she is nominated for an award at the O music awards which helps promote herself.
Album Fonts
I have looked at some albums fonts which are on their album covers and I will be looking at which ones I think I would prefer to put on my album cover. I have looked at a variety of fonts and also a variety of artists which I think have fonts that go with my style/ genre of music.
I really like the use of capital letters on this album cover because I think that it stands out from the bland background. I think that having the name of the artist really big and then having the name of the album/single under it with the same font but smaller works really well. I really like how the writing is really big but I also like how it is really thin.
I really like the use of the blue against the black and white imagery because it makes the artists name really stand out. I also think that the use of capitals works well as it contrasts with the lower case handwriting underneath which is the album name.
I like the use of the different sort of white tones on the writing as it makes the artists name stand out more than the album name. I really like the use of capitals and the use of contrast with the background.

I decided to look at the font on Tracy Chapmans' album so I could get an idea of what sort of font is used for the genre of our music. From looking at this it has become obvious that the font is writing which isn't too in your face and the use of capitals is relevant.
I really like how the 'Jay' stands out from the 'Sean' I think that having all of the fonts different works really well. I really like how two fonts are used because I think that it makes a contrast but it works really well. I think that the use of having 'Jay' in capitals means that it stands out much more.
From looking at the fonts I have realised that most albums fonts are squarish and very thin and simple, this means that I will be thinking more along the lines of simple rather than in your face. I have also realised that most of them have the name really big and then have the album name underneath in the same font but much smaller. I think that I will use this idea because then it will fit in with the concept of albums and will hopefully look professional.
Colour Scheme
I have looked at the red, white and black colour scheme because I really like the use of black and white with a hint of colour. I think that having neutral colours really brings out the red colour which I think works really well as it makes it simple but also adds a little bit of colour to it which I think works well. I think that the colours are quite unisex which I think works really well as it will attract to both audiences well. I also think that if we have this colours scheme a good idea would be to have Skye with red lipstick.
I think that these colours target at females rather than males which I think works well because our target market are mostly females rather than males so I think having this colour scheme works really well. I also think that the subtle colours will make the image stand out from the writig as the colours are quite bland. I think that as the music is quite slow than the colour scheme should match with style with the soft music and the soft colours of the digipack.
I really like the use of the purples and I also like the use of the dark grey and also the soft grey because I think that they complement eachother, however I think that they may clash if there is too much grey. I think that the purple works really well because it brings colour to the magazine. I also think that the purple brings the femininity to the album which will work realy well.

Album Mock ups
I got this picture of Adele of google and I chose it because I liked the pose that she was doing in it. I also chose this picture because I really liked how she was turning towards the camera. I then chose a grey background but not to dark but more subtler which made the picture stand out more.
Simple album covers
I really like the use of the black background because it makeas the image stand out. I also really like the use of the white writing as it contrasts with the background. I really think that the use of the writing 'Fearless' works well because it blends in with the skin colour but also works really well too. I think that the use of the neutral colour, white and black on the album works really well because they are neutral colours. Her eyes are also dark which blends in with the background. I think that the use of the writing works really well because it looks handwritten and makes it fit well with the folk genre.
I really like the bold but also neutral yellow colour of the background as it makes the photo stand out. Although it is a very old album cover and things have gotten much more modern nowadays I thought it would be a good idea to look at the album cover of the song we are doing. I really like the use of 2 simple colours as I think they compliment eachother well.
I really like the use of black and white imagery throughout this album cover. I think that it makes Adele really stand out. I really love how the writing is very simple which makes it look proffesional. I also love how it goes from dark to light throughout the album cover which I think makes it look very effective. I also really like the squareish writing because I think it makes it look very proffesional and neat rather than crowded and cramped. I think that having the image in a close up works well because you can see the artist well.
I really like the simplicity of this album cover because it just has a picture of Leona and it is on a simple background. I think that the simple writing works well. I also like the effect of the red lipstick as all of the other colours are dull and the lipstick stands out from the rest of the page which I think works really well. I think that the use of having the artist in the middle of the page works really well because she is centred in the middle because it brings focus to the middle of the album.
I like the dark colours used in this album, although I think it is a little dark and I think that it may not work well for my genre of music. I think that the picture works really well for the title and I also think that it works well that the picture is looking down at the name of the album. However I don't think that the picture is that effective especially if I am going to be using the 'gaze' theory in my photos.
I really like the how the use of the word 'Lights' is portrayed through the photography which gives it a link and makes it work really well. I think that the light effect however does make it look a little cheap so perhaps if the picture didn't have any effects added would make it work really well.

There are a variety of different genre of albums on this moodboard. I have looked at a variety of genres because it has helped me to look at different types of ideas and to look at colour schemes. Animatic
We have put together a animatic on Imovie on my mac where individual pictures were taken of each of the shots and then put into imovie and then set for the amount of seconds which we planned it to be in our storyboard and this has helped us to get an idea of what the video is going to look like and to see if we have enough shots and to see if they are long enough/ short enough. This won't be guaranteed to be exactly what our video is going to look like but it is going to be an idea of what we are going to do and if some shots don't work then we will try other ideas to try and make the video as good as we can.
